Our Star Student:Mia Smith

Meet Our Star Student
Mia’s presence at A Better World is such a blessing to the staff, volunteers, and  her  peers. Mia has been with the program for over 5 years and we have seen her growth physically and spiritually. When we met Mia she was very quiet and each time we saw her she would be behind the most recent Harry Potter Book. She is a devoted reader, one of the things we do not have to ask her to do.

Her mother tells us that she can stay up all night reading with just the light from her cell phone. Other than reading, she is very active in her school as well as her church, Christ Resurrection Church. She plays volleyball at Piedmont Open Middle School and she is the co-captain on the CRC Praise Dance Team. She is also an Honor Roll Student to add to her accolades. She is one of the youngest mature leaders that we have among our ABW youth.

She is not ashamed of her beliefs and is bold enough to lead a person to Christ young or old. “My family and my beliefs makes me who I am. A Better world helps me succeed and have my dreams accomplished.”

We are blessed to have a young lady like Mia in our program. She is a role model and a young lady who loves the Lord first and all other things are considered a blessing.

Mia is a great mentee and friend to her mentor Linwood Bolles. They talk and text each week. “She exhibits the discipline to achieve any goal she sets her mind to. She is bright, beautiful and a poised young lady”, says her mentor Linwood Bolles.  Mia says, “Mr. Linwood is my rock, a real supporter almost like a tutor but much more than school, on life too”.

Every mother can say good things about their child, but Trina Smith can definitely brag about her young lady. She says she is loving, creative, hard working, loyal, trust worthy and spiritual.

Mia is definitely a Star Student; she has what it takes to achieve anything that comes her way.  She is confident that she will go to Law School and become a Advocate Lawyer or CSI Homicide Detective.
